Waiheke High Students Compete in Central Zone Athletics Events Across Auckland
The island school's updated Term 3 timetable includes cross country and other athletic competitions that link participants with mainland teams and build lasting skills.
How we reported this

Waiheke High School has released its Term 3 2026 sports timetable, sending year 7 and 8 teams to several Auckland locations for central zone athletics competitions. Events include cross country at Waiatarua Park on 19 August and boys and girls basketball at NSEC on 15 and 17 September, alongside the AIMS Games from 7 to 11 September.
Travel to mainland fixtures builds participation
The school regularly transports teams and individuals to central zone tournaments for years 7 and 8 and College Sport leagues for years 9 to 13. This term the schedule features netball at Windmill Rd and ANC plus rugby league at Fowlds Park, giving students regular exposure to organised athletic settings beyond the island. The programme also includes internal school competitions that run before, during and after the school day.
Most sessions remain free and open to a wide age range, though some specialist coaching such as tennis or swimming lessons carries a fee. Students learn the details through assemblies, notices and home communications. The school states that these activities aim to deliver discipline, commitment and a sense of belonging whether participants train recreationally or aim for higher levels.
Range of codes supports year-round involvement
Beyond the immediate Term 3 fixtures, the annual calendar lists further Auckland events such as athletics at Mt Smart on 18 November and ki o rahi at the school itself on 24 November. Year 9 to 13 students can also join College Sport leagues in basketball, netball, girls football, waka ama and sailing. Overnight tournaments listed include the UNISS netball event and AIMS Games.
The school maintains a public booking system for its sports turf and directs families to a Google site for staff contacts and further information. Updated timetables appear at the start of each term, with the current version available on the Waiheke High School website.
Parents and students can access the full Term 3 2026 schedule and the separate central zone dates at https://waihekehigh.school.nz/sports/ to plan participation for the remainder of the year.
